Downtown Banff

After stopping at Lake Louise, we pushed on to Banff, a more established tourist village than Jasper. Here are some of the sights that we saw on the main drag (Banff Avenue) as we stopped and had a meander.

Here is the information centre.

Here is a Canadian Uniting Church with a female pastor:

These two building housed reasonable size shopping malls:

There is no escaping MacDonald's:

This rather interesting shop specialized in pictures/art of the mountain scenery.

We ate at the Maple Leaf when we made our day trip to Banff from Calgary. It was good, but we decided to try something different this day.

The Hudson’s Bay Company has changed its business plan from fur trading to real estate and specialty tourist stores.

This is one way to tour Banff village:

We ran across this “bear” while wandering through an underground mall:

We even ran across the antidote:

The most important find that we made was the Grizzly House. They had bison on the menu which I had vowed to have before we left Alberta.

We are getting primed to eat.

Most of us had bison burgers which were quite tasty. However, Linda was the big winner. She had a meat loaf that contained a combination of four meats. Bison, venison, beef, and elk. Anyway, we all had a taste and agreed that it was about the best meatloaf we had ever tasted.

We had our meal outside, but we all went inside to use the washroom (the Canadian idiom). The restaurant was nicely decorated inside.

The ladies’ washroom had some interesting features:

The most interesting (and extremely funny thing about the washrooms) was that the exit to the washroom was labelled as the entrance to the opposite sex’s washroom. I am still surprised that we didn’t get a a photographic record of that. My excuse is that I was so relieved to not be going to the ladies’ that I just kept on going.
