Vancouver – Big Bus

We decided we would take a tour bus around Vancouver to prioritize our sightseeing. We decided to buy a two day ticket for the Big Bus which would allow us to hop on and off wherever it stopped for as many times as we wished on the next two days.

 

In retrospect, we found that the bus frequency only faintly resembled the 15-20 minutes advertised. In fact, we had to wait an hour to get on to the first bus. Admittedly, this was because two other buses were too full to take us on, so we had to wait until one had some space. While all this was going on, we noticed that Big Bus’ main competitor, Trolley Company, seemed to be running just fine. The trolley came more often, and they were less frequently too full to take on passengers..

As usual there were flowers everywhere on our travels in Vancouver.

We passed by the Vancouver Art Gallery which was only a few blocks from our apartment. It is something we might should have gone to, but we couldn’t fit it in.

 

We’re just armchair tourists.

We are getting ready to go over the Granville St bridge, one of many picturesque bridges in Vancouver.

There were quite a few Scots that settled in B.C.

Here is a bit of a view of downtown from the road.

This marks the centre of the entertainment (plays, etc) in Vancouver.

 

We have even stumbled onto the back entrance/parking lot of the B.C. supreme court.

There was a nice park at Second Beach.

The park contained some neat sculptures.

And, of course, there were flowers.

We came across the offices of the national broadcaster. 

We are getting ready to enter Vancouver’s China Town.

This one of the lion guards to the Chinese gardens (another place we didn’t have time to see.)

Who remembers Sun Yat Sen? I suppose he would be well remembered if the Nationalists had prevailed over the communists in China.

Here are those Canadians wasting water that we would love to have in Oz. According to one guide, Canada has more fresh water resources than the rest of the world combined.
